What to Send for an Unstitched Suit Pickup: A Simple Checklist

One small preparation step can save a lot of confusion when sending fabric for stitching: collect everything the tailor needs before pickup. Use the checklist below when preparing an unstitched shalwar kameez, frock, maxi or formal outfit.

Unstitched fabric pieces

Keep the shirt and trouser pieces together. If you have a dupatta, lining, border fabric or cutwork pieces, include them only after confirming whether they are needed for the chosen design. Avoid cutting material yourself before the stitching requirements are final.

A dress that fits comfortably

A sample outfit is particularly useful for a doorstep stitching service. Choose a garment with the fit you want to reproduce. If the shirt fits but the trouser does not, explain that before collection. Remember that fabric type can affect the finished drape.

Design reference photos

Save clear pictures of the neckline, sleeves, hem and trouser shape. Do not rely on a single front-facing image if the design includes details on the back. Mark features you want copied and features you want changed.

Any lace, buttons or decorative trim

Keep extra materials in a separate bag and label them if possible. If trim placement is important, include a quick written instruction, such as “use this border at the shirt hem.” Check whether your tailor can provide missing extras or whether you need to supply them.

Fitting and comfort notes

Record a few personal preferences: loose or fitted sleeves, preferred shirt length, trouser rise and whether you need room at the shoulders or hips. A short message is more useful than vague terms like “normal fitting”.

Delivery and contact details

Provide an accessible phone number, exact pickup area and a preferred time. Ask for the full price, including separate pickup and delivery charges, and confirm when the order is expected back.

Before handing over the fabric

Take a quick photograph of the fabric and accessories so you can refer to them later. Confirm the number of outfits and pieces being collected. If something is unclear, ask the team rather than making assumptions.
